Srinagar, Oct 23 (KNO): Residents living along the HMT Chowk to Shaletang stretch in Srinagar have raised serious concerns about the rampant movement of fast-moving tippers through their residential roads.
Several residents from the area told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that they fear for the safety of their families, especially children, as tippers loaded with construction material continue to speed through these narrow lanes, with no authority visible to address the issue.
Irfan Rasool, a resident from the area, expressed his distress, stating that the speed at which these tippers move through their road stretch makes the roads hazardous for pedestrians. “The moment I see a tipper approaching, I step off the road to avoid it. It feels like they are on a highway,” Rasool said.
Another resident from Friends Colony highlighted the narrowness of the roads, making it difficult for other vehicles to pass when these tippers are on the move. “The situation has become unbearable. I can't let my children go out alone for tuition anymore,” said Fayaz Ahmad.
The residents said that the tippers are using residential routes to bypass the 'No Entry' restrictions imposed on main roads during the day.
They said that the fast-moving tipper vehicles not only pose a danger due to their speed but also contribute to pollution as they carry uncovered construction material.
In response, a senior traffic police officer told KNO that they have already started addressing the issue regarding the movement of heavy goods vehicles or tippers through the residential areas.
“We will be conducting a rigorous enforcement drive in the area and will take strict legal action against drivers violating the traffic rules,” the senior officer said.
The residents urged authorities to act swiftly to prevent any risk to their lives and property, calling for immediate enforcement and strict monitoring of these heavy vehicles—(KNO)
